POWER OF THE LAND project / space specific light and video installations (2017-)
The project focuses on the influence of nature on the land and on the life of its
inhabitants. This connection became visible by light and projection.
The project developed in FINLAND Haihara Art Center, in JAPAN Akiyoshidai InternationalArt Village, and in ICELAND Fresh Winds International Art Biennale.

“The project I developed in the Haihara Art Center – organised by Kulttuuripalvelut
and the Unkarin Kulttuuri- ja Tiedekeskus –
is focusing to the land, and it’s the strong effects on the inhabitants. I have
experienced the power of nature, when I first visited Finland as part as
the Arteles Creative Center
in Hämmenkyrö
in 2012. Spending the dark winter in the countryside I felt the strong natural
rhythm – light and dark – and its effects on myself. Due to the darkness I used
flashlight often, so as an after effect, I have started to apply light in my
artwork as well. In
Tampere I visualize this power of the land, in a pop-up light installation.
As
an empiric approach, collected soil and clay from different parts of Tampere
are exposed to light. The result is recorded in a time lapse video, and
projected into the exhibition space. The different reactions of the different
locations show something more than a natural phenomenon. In this
pseudoscientific research, the influence of nature on the land and its people
symbolically became visible by the light, when the soil let the light cross.
MAAN VOIMA / valoinstallaatio / Haiharan taidekeskus, Tampere (FI)
Taideprojekti jonka
olen työstänyt Haiharan taidekeskuksessa keskittyy siihen, miten maa vaikuttaa
sen asukkaisiin. Suomalaisen luonnon voima teki minuun huikean vaikutuksen jo
viisi vuotta sitten Hämeenkyrössä, kun olin ensimmäistä kertaa Suomessa. Vietin
Tampereen
näyttelyssä haluan visualisoida maan voimaa valoinstallaation kautta.

Akiyoshidai InternationalArt Village, Yamaguchi Prefecture (JP)
The light
installation - made especially for the Light Art Exhibition, - focuses
on natural light. The idea
based on the previous work: Keeping Shadows (2016) developed in Akiyoshidai
International Art Village, during the Trans_2015-2016 Artist in Residence
program. While my
earlier artistic research is praising shadow - as an important part of Japanese
culture – the new installation connect the light and the land.
The idea of
the installation is born in the cave of Akiyoshido. Japan has a strong and
beautiful nature, and special conditions of forces. The unique light and shadow equilibrium
especially interesting in Chugoku region which consists of two different parts
- a sunny and a shady side - considering the way of the sun. Beside the high
mountains and the plateau, huge caves are also dividing light and dark. There is a unique balance in the region, as
people live close to the nature, celebrates it’s beauty and except it’s
forces. The project is aiming to
visualize this balance.
As an empiric approach, collected soil and clay from
different parts of Yamaguchi are exposed to light. The soils from different locations are all unique. The result is
recorded and projected into the exhibition space and floor. In this
pseudoscientific research, the influence of nature on the land and on the life
of its inhabitants symbolically became visible by projection, when the soil
cracks and let the light cross.

FRESHWINDS International Art Biennale in Iceland (IS)
The installation - made especially for the Fresh Winds Biennale - is strongly connected to Iceland, because I literally researched the soil of the land. I have been inspirited by the amazing geological features of the South West Peninsula, such as lava stone fields, hot springs, and the dreamy Aurora Borealis.
The video installation – on the top floor of the Lighthouse in Garður –
focuses on the power of the nature. Iceland has a strong and beautiful nature,
and special conditions of forces. As an
empiric approach, I collected clay and mud from different parts of Reykjanes,
and exposed them to light. The change in the material – I believe – shows more
than a natural phenomenon. It visualizes the influence of nature, and makes us
realise, how strongly we are connected to the land.
landinu.
